  121. Support for PAF GEDCOM files (the Genealogical Data Communication
  122. standard) is now included. You can export and import data to and from
  123. other genealogy programs. Simply specify that the file you wish to open
  124. is a GEDCOM file and Kith and Kin will do the rest. You can create a new
  125. tree or merge the GEDCOM file with an existing tree. Saving to a GEDCOM
  126. file is just as easy. Export one person, selected families or an entire
  127. tree.

  129. There are now indicators in Person and Family data dialogs to show if
  130. any notes or objects are present.

  132. The dialog fields and controls now have hot-keys to speed up keyboard
  133. use.

  135. A new search facility has been added to check for people in limbo, ie.
  136. people who do not appear in families because they have no parents or
  137. marriages.

  139. Due to the length of time taken to load larger GEDCOM files, a status
  140. indicator bar is displayed each time any file type is opened or saved.

  159. the edges of the page (eg. in ancestral trees). This version correctly
  160. clips all text at the set margins.

  162. The heading lines in the Family Details printout were missing from page
  163. 2 onwards on some printers. This has now been fixed.

  165. A Person Details printout is now available for printing details of one
  166. or more people.

  168. The Descendant and Ancestral trees now have titles and have been
  169. improved to handle multi-page printing. Printers which can handle
  170. continuous stationery can produce large charts without having to join

  173. The Family Details printout now has improved widow/orphan control, eg. a
  174. page break was possible between the CHILDREN header and the first child.

  180. Appropriate menu items are now correctly disabled when there are no
  181. people and/or families in the current tree.

  183. The following are the limits on the size of the tree data. You can have
  184. up to 16383 people and families combined. The size of the Tree Area is
  185. approx. 200 families wide by 350 high. The maximum number of characters
  186. which can be held in each person or family notes is 9500. Ultimately the
  187. total amount of tree data will depend on the amount of memory (RAM) in
  188. your PC. To some extent the speed of your PC will govern the usability
  189. of the software with large amounts of data.

  196. copy which you may install and use free of charge for 30 days. After
  197. that time, if you wish to continue using the program you must become a

  200. your tree (.TRE) and options (.OPT) files may require conversion before
  201. they can be used with this version. A data file conversion program is
  202. included with all registered versions of Kith and Kin.

  226. Copy all files from the release disk into a new directory (eg. KITHKIN)
  227. on your hard disk.

  229. Run KITHKIN.EXE from the File Manager or create a new program item in
  230. the Program Manager and double click on the Kith and Kin icon. You can
  231. launch Kith and Kin from a Tree File (.TRE) if you have associated .TRE
  232. files with KITHKIN.EXE in the File Manager. The program (.EXE), help
  233. (.HLP) and options (.OPT) files must all reside in the same directory.

  235. To get you off to a flying start using Kith and Kin, read the help topic
  236. "Getting Started". This will lead you through the basics.

  238. The file BWCC.DLL should reside in either the KITHKIN or WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  239. directories or in another directory in your PATH. Since it is a common
  240. DLL you may already have it on your system in which case you need only
